Genium
With the market launch of the Genium leg prosthesis, Ottobock opened up entirely new horizons for prosthesis wearers: a nearly natural gait pattern, climbing stairs step-over-step, walking backwards, relaxed standing – to name just a few examples. The benefits of being fitted with a Genium have been scientifically proven in multiple studies.
The Genium has been enhanced based on human movement as the model. The result is a noticeably smoother gait and even better support and safety in everyday situations, for instance on ramps, in confined spaces or when changing walking speeds. Five individually selectable MyModes support special movement patterns at work or play.
The Genium can be configured with the Cockpit app, which is now available not only for Android but Apple (iOS) devices as well.

Intuitive flow with every step
Thanks to its unique OPG (Optimized Physiological Gait) technology, the Genium supports an exceptionally smooth walking pattern. This near-natural gait pattern relieves the user’s locomotor system, providing greater freedom and flexibility for everyday situations and activities.
Life is full of ups, downs and everyday challenges. With the Genium, users can easily take stairs step-over-step and overcome obstacles such as curbs.
Users don't have to worry about encountering occasional water splashes. The Genium is weatherproof (IP67 rated) but it is not waterproof. You should not wear it in the shower or for activities like swimming.
The Genium offers two different stance functions that allow users to rest on their prosthesis. The result is continuous relief for the contralateral side of the body. Bilateral users also benefit from the option of choosing between the stance functions.
Genium users can easily get more support for their favourite activities. MyModes offer a fantastic selection of options for work, leisure and athletics. Together with their O&P professional, users can select from five modes for activation via the Cockpit app.
With the Cockpit app, users can fine tune settings individually, switch between MyModes, check their battery life, set their volume, track their activities, restart their knee joint if needed, and more — all via their iOS or Android smartphone.
Genium users jump into life with both feet
Aaron is ready for anything
There’s nothing more important to Aaron than being able to keep up with his fast-paced family. And for this bilateral amputee, there’s no challenge too great — whether he’s at work, on a weekend getaway with his kids, or out fishing.
Hamed explores new adventures
Hamed’s leg was amputated when he was only six years old — but never let it keep him from leading an active life filled with family, friends, and sports. Always seeking new challenges, Hamed loves how his prosthesis takes him on new journeys every day.
Advanced technology, exceptional control
A groundbreaking microprocessor knee
In 2011, the Genium took the MPK world by storm, delivering truly breakthrough gait performance. And over the last decade, it has continued to evolve, pushing ever further toward the natural model.
Calculating every movement with incomparable precision and accuracy, the Genium responds in real time to support users exactly when and how they need it.
The OPG (Optimized Physiological Gait) technology enables an exceptionally smooth walking pattern — even on slopes or uneven terrain, when changing speeds, or in confined spaces. This also provides targeted relief for the user’s contralateral side, promoting long-term health benefits and helping users live more in the moment.
More control at your fingertips
Integrated Bluetooth® technology empowers users and O&P professionals to configure the Genium via the Cockpit app, available for Android and iOS devices. A few taps are all it takes to activate MyModes for additional support during a wide variety of activities, mute the knee joint while at a theater or other event, or check the battery charge level.
