Amy McColm
I graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc (Hons) degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2014. Before starting with Ottobock I worked for Blatchford for just over 5 years. I started off as a graduate Orthotist in at the Sheffield Mobility & Specialised Rehab Centre before moving to Cumbria to cover their community clinics in the Lake District. During both these roles I worked closely with the podiatry team to assist in the healing of diabetic ulcers.
In 2015 I moved to London to cover the clinics in the South East where I helped to develop the Spinal Fracture Pathway and Ulceration Guide at Northwick Park Hospital. This is the role where I learned my love of paediatrics and worked closely with those with Cerebral Palsy and other neurological conditions. In 2018 I was promoted to Clinical Lead at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham where I managed the orthotic service, working closely with the NHS to develop and improve the service provided by orthotics and the multidisciplinary team (MDT). While working as clinical lead I completed my mental health first aid training, working with both patients and other members of staff to encourage discussions around mental health and personal wellbeing, something I have taken on in my role at Ottobock.
At the end of 2019 I was ready for a new challenge and was excited to take on the role as part of the Orthotic Academy at Ottobock UK. As part of this, I was still treating paediatric patients with neurological conditions, keeping my hand in clinically. In 2022 my role changed again and I took on the new role of Market Manager – Orthotics, continuing to work as part of the Orthotic Academy as a trainer in Bioness, Exopulse Mollii Suit and C-Brace, as well as with the wider team implementing global strategies. I love sharing my knowledge, supporting clinicians to give more treatment options and being able to improve the lives of end users.
