A paradigm change has occurred in the neurorehabilitation of distal limb paresis as a result of the introduction of the first knee-ankle-foot orthosis with microprocessor control for the stance and swing phase. A distinct difference from traditional orthoses is possible thanks to the expanding body of evidence proving the patient's benefit.
We will focus on the clinically significant outcomes of the first microprocessor-controlled stance and swing phase knee-ankle-foot orthosis in neurorehabilitation and how they have an impact on daily clinical practice during this afternoon's conference.
In this afternoon symposium we will devote ourselves to these clinical meaningful results of the first of a microprocessor-controlled stance and swing phase knee-ankle-foot orthosis in neurorehabilitation and their impact on clinical routine.

Prof. Dr. med. Dipl. oec Bernhard Greitemann
Prof Greitemann is Medical Director and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, Münsterland Rehabilitation Hospital, Bad Rothenfelde, since 1994 and started his career as physiotherapist. He holds a second university degree in health care economics at the University Chur/University of Applied Science Köln. He has been involved in the respective boards of the German Society of Ortopaedics and Ortopaedic Surgery, the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (President Germany) as well as the German Association for Rehabilitation. Since 2017, Prof. Greitemann has also been Deputy Chairman of the German Society for Interprofessional Aid Supply. The Physician is particularly scientifically commited in the field of rehabilitation sciences.

Shane Wurdeman, PhD, CP, FAAOP(D) – Vice President, Scientific Affairs, Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education.
Dr. Wurdeman holds a degree in physics, a Master’s in prosthetics and orthotics, and a PhD in biomechanics. He entered the field of O&P as a technician before going to school to become a clinician. He is a fellow with distinction of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. Dr. Wurdeman is past winner of the Research Award of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, and a 5-time Thranhardt Lecture Award winner. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for AOPA as the Research Director and the co-chair of The Orthotic & Prosthetic Foundation for Education and Research. He is based in Austin, Texas.

What is the impact of the C-Brace study results on my clinical routine? What patients taking part in the C-Brace study taught me?
Bea Hemmen (Amsterdam, 1961) studied medicine at the Free University of Amsterdam, where she obtained her medical degree in 1987. She obtained her Ph.D. with a thesis on 'Cellular and Molecular Aspects of Articular Cartilage Resurfacing' from University College London in the United Kingdom. Since 2002, she has been working as a rehabilitation physician/senior researcher at Maastricht UMC (Academic Hospital Maastricht) and since 2017 also at the Heerlen location of the Zuyderland hospital, seconded from Adelante (formerly Hoensbroek Rehabilitation Centre), with a focus on amputation and prosthetics, ICU rehabilitation, post-COVID rehabilitation and trauma rehabilitation. Author or co-author of more than 40 publications. Her research interest is the innovation of rehabilitation care in general and specifically the functional added value of prostheses and prosthetic parts in patients with lower extremity amputation, as well as the prognosis and long-term functioning in patients following covid-19 infections and the development of new rehabilitation treatments for multi-trauma patients. She has been chief of rehabilitation medicine training at Maastricht UMC since January 2022. She is a member of the Dutch Working Group for Amputation and Prosthetics. She is also chair of the Working Group 'Rehabilitation of Patients with Post Intensive Care Syndrome’ as well as being a member of the Development Group for Fractures, the WHO Rehabilitation Program on the development of the Package of Interventions for Rehabilitation and the Good Use Committee for Home Care Devices, ZON MW (Dutch national grand giving body).

How can I use study outcome assessments for rehabilitation targets and reimbursement documentation?
Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA in Duderstadt, Germany, since 2017. In his role he is responsible of the planning, conduction, and analysis of clinical studies to support the development and reimbursement of Ottobock products. From his background he is a sports scientist, having finished his Master studies in sports science at the Humboldt University in Berlin and his Bachelor studies in “Sport and Performance” at the German Sport University in Cologne focusing on biomechanics and movement analysis. In his spare time, he is a passionate handball youth coach and enjoys doing sports himself.
