With the market launch of the Genium leg prosthesis in 2011, Ottobock opened up entirely new horizons for prosthesis wearers: an unprecedented, near-natural gait pattern, climbing stairs step-over-step, overcoming obstacles, moving backwards, relaxed standing – to name just a few examples. For the first time, people with a transfemoral amputation experienced a range of new functions that provided perfect support for their desire to live a more active and independent everyday life. The benefits of treatment with a Genium have been scientifically proven in multiple studies.

The result is a noticeably smoother gait and even better support and safety in everyday situations, for instance on ramps, in confined spaces or when changing walking speeds. Five individually selectable MyModes support special movement patterns at work or during recreation. The leg prosthesis can be configured with the Cockpit app, which is available for Android as well as for Apple (iOS) devices.

The Genium offers two different stance functions that allow users to rest on their prosthesis. The result is continuous relief for the contralateral side of the body. Bilateral users also benefit from the option of choosing between the stance functions.

Support for everyday obstacles

Life is full of ups, downs and everyday challenges. With the Genium, users can easily take stairs step-over-step and overcome obstacles such as curbs.

Weatherproof
Weatherproof (IP 67)

Users don't have to worry about encountering occasional water splashes. The Genium is weatherproof (IP67 rated) but it is not waterproof. You should not wear it in the shower or for activities like swimming.

Calculating every movement with incomparable precision and accuracy, the Genium responds in real time to support users exactly when and how they need it. 

The OPG (Optimized Physiological Gait) technology enables an exceptionally smooth walking pattern — even on slopes or uneven terrain, when changing speeds, or in confined spaces. This also provides targeted relief for the user’s contralateral side, promoting long-term health benefits and helping users live more in the moment.
 

More control at your fingertips

Integrated Bluetooth® technology empowers users and O&P professionals to configure the Genium via the Cockpit app, available for Android and iOS devices. A few taps are all it takes to activate MyModes for additional support during a wide variety of activities, mute the knee joint while at a theater or other event, or check the battery charge level.
