MyCRO Band: Cranial remolding orthosis for flat head syndrome

Cranial remolding is a non-invasive approach to correcting asymmetrical and flattened head shapes in infants—a condition called plagiocephaly or “flat head syndrome”. CRO treatment uses a specially fitted helmet (orthosis) to gradually correct the skull’s shape over several months.

When a baby’s head has asymmetrical and/or flat areas, a CRO can help gently guide the skull toward a more normal (or “physiological”) shape as the child grows. 

Each CRO is custom made to correct the exact asymmetry or flattening a baby’s head has developed. Over time, wearing the device helps gradually shift the child’s skull toward a symmetrical shape.

Yes, flat head syndrome can be effectively treated in several gentle, non-invasive ways:

• Positioning therapy: Changing a baby’s resting position can help reduce pressure on flat parts of their head. More “tummy time” can give the baby’s head a chance to naturally grow into a normal shape.

• Physical therapy: This is often the first step for babies who need clinical treatment for flat head syndrome. Stretching and exercise can help release muscle tension and encourage head movement.

• A CRO: Sometimes called a cranial or “baby” helmet, these specialized medical devices are used to help gently reshape a baby’s head over time.

Many of these therapies are most effective between 4 to 8 months after birth, so it’s important to start treatment as soon as a doctor recommends it.

Every CRO is custom made for the child who’ll wear it. But unlike most other cranial helmets, the MyCRO Band is built using advanced scanning and 3D printing processes that help ensure a precise, comfortable fit. 

The scanning process is quick and easy for both you and your baby. Once your child’s cranial helmet has been 3D-printed, it slips right on to start their therapy.

Most babies finish helmet therapy in 3 to 6 months. It’s typically faster and more effective the earlier a baby starts treatment.

While some babies are immediately comfortable in a cranial helmet, most infants need some time to get used to their device. For the first week of therapy, your baby may only wear the device a few hours at a time while they’re adjusting to their new helmet.

Once they’re used to their device, your baby should wear it almost continuously, day and night. You can typically take off your child’s cranial helmet an hour a day for bath time or cleaning. Otherwise, you should only take off a baby’s helmet if they have a fever (or if your child’s doctor instructs you to do so).

MyCRO Band is designed with comfort and hygiene in mind. Both the shell and lining can be cleaned separately.

If the shell gets dirty, remove the lining first. Then wipe the shell with water and gentle soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth. The soft fabric lining is easy to remove and can be washed by hand. 

Each MyCRO Band comes with two linings. You can order more if needed.
